Main responsibilities of the postPurposeTo conduct examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and St James’ Catholic High School regulations and instructions. To have a key role in upholding the integrity and security of the examination/assessment process. A professional appearance at all examinations is required. Invigilators are required throughout the year for internal and external examinations, with the busiest time being the summer term. The role requires good communication skills, the ability to work calmly under pressure and to deal with any problems Effectively and promptly. Flexibility, reliability and an eye for detail are essential, as is the ability to communicate in clear, spoken English.Key ResponsibilitiesTo conduct examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and St James’ Catholic High School regulations and instructions. To have a key role in upholding the integrity and security of the examination/assessment processTo prepare and assist the Examinations Officer with the preparation of the examination hall and other examination roomsTo ensure that candidates are aware they are under examination conditionsTo assist with candidate entry into the room, check ID, set the tone and ensure students enter quietly and efficientlyTo ensure that late candidates are briefed, seated and allowed to partake in the examination with minimum disruptionTo open and distribute papers and other authorised materials to candidatesTo ensure that candidates have correct papersTo read out erratum notices when necessaryTo notify candidates of the start and finish times of the examinationTo record start and finish times of the examinationsTo be vigilant at all times during the examinationsTo collect all scripts and associated materials at the end of each examination and ensure that there are no missing scriptsTo supervise candidates in quiet and unobtrusive manner, respond to candidate queries in accordance with examination regulations and distribute additional paper/ equipment as requiredTo log all incidents during examsTo record and notify the Lead Invigilator/Examinations Officer of incidents of malpractice in line with school policyTo supervise candidates held in centre supervision before or after examinationsTo check registers against scripts and collate scripts in attendance register orderTo undertake any other duties commensurate with the status of the post, as deemed necessary by the Examination OfficerTo be aware and considerate of candidate exam access arrangementsTo attend in-person training annuallyTo complete online training in line with JCQ regulationsWhilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. The purpose of this role under the overall direction of the Head of Department and in accordance with the practices and procedures of the school, assist teaching staff in providing a safe and efficient lab technical service for students and teaching staff. The technician role forms a central part of the work of the department and the successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to support, develop and further extend the work of the department and the experiences of the students Responsibilities • Preparation and assembly of apparatus and components for demonstration and class practical work. To prepare solutions and materials • To ensure equipment and electrical connections, chemical solutions and other materials are left/stored in a safe and secure condition, ready for re-use • To pay particular attention to the use of resources in the department such as text books and practical equipment, ensuring that departmental procedures are being used, and to report any discrepancies to the senior lab technician and HOD • To undertake minor repairs and modifications when necessary and to assist in the construction of apparatus.
